This is a good question and made me realize I need to practice it more intentionally and also practice recognizing it more in others! I went through a bit of a health scare during the very first months of the pandemic when there was an apocalyptic feeling in the air, we were on total lockdown and healthcare workers literally feared for their lives every day by doing their jobs. I’ve been in hospitals, as I’m sure we all have, but this was the first time I had dr.’s, nurses and healthcare workers spend time just ‘sitting’ with me vs. trying to push me through the system. It stuck with, vividly, for months and their welcoming, calming presence is something I still feel now, even when we were separated by layers and layers of PPC.
Chris Mowery-BellParticipantHi all –
Some things about me – I was raised in South Jersey (don’t hold Jersey against me) by a single mom who sent me to a Christian (assemblies of God) school which effectively led me away from church (however thats defined) for years as I found more of what Jesus was teaching at punk and hardcore shows than I did at that school. I went to NYU for college where I dove into volunteering in the city and practicing social justice in my daily life, leading me back to consider Jesus and separate him from my experience at church. I’ve been going to Redeemer here in the city since then and volunteer with 2nd and 3rd grade boys in Washington Heights with a program called Operation Exodus (though I don’t like the name).
Look forward to speaking with you all tonight 🙂
